BUFFALO, N.Y. (February 27, 2008) - The National Lacrosse League announced today that Buffalo's Daniel Sams was named both Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week for Week Eight of the NLL season.

With both starter Mike Thompson and backup Ken Montour out of the lineup due to injury, the 21-year-old goaltender recorded a franchise-record 60 saves and held Chicago to just eight goals on Sunday at Sears Centre. It was the first career start for Sams, who started the season on the Bandits practice squad and has only logged 15 previous minutes in goal in his career.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the general managers and head coaches of the League's 12 member clubs.

Buffalo's next home game is Sat., March 1, against the Philadelphia Wings. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $19 to $29.
