New York's Powell named Player of Week

Published on February 27, 2008 under National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release

New York's Casey Powell was named both the Overall Player and Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals and six assists in the Titans' 14-11 road-win over the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday at Blue Cross Arena. The 32-year-old right-hander also added three assists to lead the Titans to the franchise's first win over the defending champs. The nine points were a season-high for Powell, who also scooped eight loose balls in the victory.

Buffalo's Daniel Sams was named both Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week. With both starter Mike Thompson and backup Ken Montour out of the lineup due to injury, the 21-year-old goaltender recorded a franchise-record 60 saves and held Chicago to just eight goals on Sunday at Sears Centre. It was the first career start for Sams, who started the season on the Bandits practice squad and has only logged 15 previous minutes in goal in his career.

Philadelphia's Rob Van Beek was named Transition Player of the Week. The 24-year-old left-hander scored a career-high three goals and one assist and scooped 11 loose balls in the Wings' 17-8 win over the Minnesota Swarm on Friday at Wachovia Center.
