New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - New Britain third baseman Juan Portes singled through the hole at short to knock in Rene Tosoni in the bottom of the ninth to give the Rock Cats a dramatic 2-1 victory over Harrisburg on Thursday night. It was the first win of the season for the Rock Cats at New Britain Stadium.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Tosoni delivered a base hit to right field. Whit Robbins - who entered the game after first baseman Chris Parmelee was ejected for arguing a call at the plate - then reached base after being hit by a pitch. The Senators sent Hassan Pena to the mound with one out to face Portes, who singled home the winning run with a line drive to left field.

The game started off as a pitcher's duel between the Rock Cats' Deolis Guerra and the Seanators' Matt Chico.

The Rock Cats were kept off the board through the first four innings. Marc Dolenc led off the fifth with a double to left and moved to third on Danny Lehmann's fly out to right. Yancarlos Ortiz was then forced into a popup to first base. With Ben Revere (3-for-4) at the plate, Chico unleashed a wild pitch that allowed Dolenc to score from third for the 1-0 advantage.

Meanwhile, Guerra was masterful through seven innings.Guerra allowed a two-out double in the first inning before ending the inning on a fly out to right field. He then retired 14 of the next 15 batters before allowing back-to-back singles in the sixth with one out. Bill Rhinehart (3-for-4) then doubled to right to knock in Bradley Coon to tie the game, 1-1.

Guerra scattered five hits while striking out six and walking none. He came away with the no-decision. Chris Province (1-0) picked up the win in relief after retiring the last batter in the top of the ninth. Spencer Steedley added 1 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Yunior Novoa (0-1) suffered the loss for the Senators.
