Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators began their second road trip of the season with a 2-1 loss at the hands of the New Britain Rock Cats. It was the second time this season that the Senators have lost in their opponents final at bat. The last time the Sens were on the road they dropped a 1-0 decision to the Bowie Baysox in extra innings.

Matt Chico started for the Sens and had one of his best starts with the Sens going six innings and allowing just a single run. However, Deolis Guerra matched him going seven innings and allowing five hits and a run.

Harrisburg scored their only run on a double off the bat of Bill Rhinehart in the sixth, driving in Brad Coon. Rhinehart had two doubles and three hits on the night. Danny Espinosa had two hits including leading off the ninth with a single, but he was stranded at third base.

New Britain plated a run in the fifth on a wild pitch then used a single and a hit batter to set up their winning run in the ninth. With one out, Rene Tosoni singled off of Yunior Novoa. Novoa, who took the loss, then hit Whit Robbins moving the winning run to second base. Hassan Pena then relieved Novoa and gave up a roller off the bat of Juan Portes that snuck through the left side of the Sens infield to plate Tosoni with the winning run.

The win was the fourth in five games for New Britain over the Sens. The Rock Cats have not defeated any other EL team this year as they are 0-10 against the rest of the league. It was the first win this season for New Britain at home.

The Sens and Rock Cats continue their four-game series on Friday afternoon at 12:05pm with RH Jeff Mandel making the start for the Sens against RH David Bromberg for the Rock Cats. The game can be heard on 1460AM The Ticket beginning at 11:50am. The game can also be heard on the Internet through the Senators website.
