Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Erie SeaWolves ran into another starting pitcher's career nigh as the 'Wolves dropped the series opener to New Britain 8-0.
New Britain starter Trevor May worked a season high 7.2 innings with nine strikeouts, one off his season high. May would only allow four hits all game, with the first in the fifth inning to James McCann. Jamie Johnson was the only SeaWolf batter to reach base twice and he did so on a single and a walk against May.
Erie starter Matt Crouse ran into trouble early, loading the bases with no out in the top of the first. A strikeout and two pop-outs got Crouse out of the jam and he wouldn't run into trouble until the fifth.
Crouse loaded the bases once more and surrendered a single to Nate Henson that brought home two. After the runners advanced into scoring position, Miguel Sano hit a sacrifice fly into right field. James Robbins cut off Tyler Collins' throw, but a throwing error on Robbins' attempt to double off Josmil Pinto brought in Henson to make it 4-0 Rock Cats.
New Britain scored again in each of the final three innings to cap off their win. Two scored in the seventh via a Henson double and a Reynaldo Rodriguez single. One scored in the eighth after Tyler Clark walked in a run with the bases loaded. The final run came in the ninth when Rodriguez hammered a solo homerun off David Kopp.
The SeaWolves look to rebound Wednesday night when Victor Larez (5-3, 5.25) takes on Pat Dean (3-7, 5.06 ERA) at 7:05.
