Black Shines in Debut as Thunder Snap Skid in Akron

(Akron OH) - Mt. Laurel, NJ native Sean Black allowed one run over six strong innings in his Double-A debut to lead the Trenton Thunder to a 5-1 win over the Akron Aeros at Canal Park Tuesday night to snap the team's five-game losing skid.
The Thunder (34-35) hit three home runs and scored five times in the second inning against MLB-rehabbing Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez, and the squad won for just the third time in the month of June.
Black (1-0), promoted from A-Advanced Tampa on Monday, permitted five hits and three walks over his six innings of work. He induced two double-play grounders and threw 87 total pitches. Aaron Dott and Tommy Kahnle combined for three hitless innings in relief to finish the win.
Perez (0-1), trying to work his way back from a shoulder ailment to the back-end of the Indians bullpen, allowed a one-out bomb to Reegie Corona (2) in the second to open the scoring. Two batters later Francisco Arcia, also making his Trenton debut, swung at the first pitch he saw as an Eastern-Leaguer and crushed another blast to right to double the lead.
After Perez then hit Shane Brown with a pitch, Ramon Flores crushed a long home run inside the foul pole in right for his third of the year. Slade Heathcott followed with a double and was singled home on a liner to center by Tyler Austin. In all, Perez was charged with five runs and five hits in the inning.
Heathcott and Austin each recorded two of Trenton's nine hits, while Cedric Hunter had a pair of Akron's five base knocks.
Game two of the series will be played Wednesday night, as the Thunder turn to another newcomer on the mound. Right-hander Shane Greene (NR) is expected to make his EL debut against Aeros right-hander Brett Brach (3-2, 4.54), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm. Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 6:15 pm.
