NORFOLK-LORE: The Rochester Red Wings tonight play the 2nd game of their 4-game series vs. Norfolk (Orioles). Rochester started the 8-game homestand by taking 3 of 4 from Columbus (Indians) before losing yesterday's series opener against Norfolk 6-4. Following this 4-game set with the Tides, the Wings will embark on their longest roadtrip of the season, a 9-day, 8-game adventure to Indianapolis (Pirates) and Louisville (Reds). Rochester has 4 other 8-game trips, but all are 8 days long.

ROSTER NEWS: Right-handed pitcher Steve Hirschfeld yesterday was promoted from Double-A New Britain to start tonight's game against Norfolk. The 26-year-old went 4-4 with a 3.20 ERA in 11 starts with the Rock Cats. He was selected by the Twins in the 9th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.

a Hirschfeld becomes the 13th different starting pitcher used by the Red Wings, the 3rd summoned from New Britain (Luke French and David Bromberg). He is the 5th pitcher and 8th player overall to make the jump from the Rock Cats.

a Only Norfolk has used more starting pitchers in the International League with 15. Lehigh Valley (Phillies) has used the fewest with 6. Rochester used 18 different starters in 2011.

STILL DOING ALL RIGHT: Despite last night's 6-4 defeat, the Red Wings have still won 5 of their last 8 games and are 11-10 in their last 21 games beginning May 15. The Wings tonight look to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time in more than a week. They lost 4 in a row May 25-28.

a Rochester yesterday committed a season-high 3 errors for the 2nd time, matching their effort from April 19 against the Empire State Yankees at Frontier Field.

a Also yesterday, the Red Wings didn't issue a walk in a game for the 6th time. They enter tonight having gone 14 consecutive innings without allowing a free pass.

a Only Indianapolis and Pawtucket (Red Sox) have more games with no walks. They both have 7 such contests. Columbus, meanwhile, also has 6. Norfolk has 4.

HOME BODIES: Despite last night's loss, the Red Wings have won 10 of their last 15 games at Frontier Field and are 19-16 along Morrie Silver Way overall, including a 15-12 mark as the home team. The Wings, meanwhile, are just 6-17 in true road games. The Rochester pitching staff has a 2.73 ERA (91 ER/300.0 IP) in 35 games at Frontier Field compared to a 4.98 ERA (106 ER/191.2 IP) in 23 games outside the Flower City.

KEEPING IT IN THE YARD: The Red Wings' pitching staff has given up only 3 home runs in the last 11 games. Rochester hurlers went 47 consecutive innings without giving one up until Joe Mahoney went deep off Matt Maloney in the 2nd inning last night.

a Rochester hurlers have given up just 38 homers all season, the 4th-lowest mark in the league. Charlotte (White Sox) leads the circuit with only 32 homers allowed.

EXTRA! EXTRA!: The Red Wings have recorded at least one extra-base hit in 32 consecutive games, their longest such streak in one season since July 31-September 5, 2009, when they had a 38-game streak.

a Rochester yesterday got 2 doubles from Pedro Florimon and a home run from Rene Rivera.

a Leading Red Wings candidates include Anthony Slama, owner of 9 saves, a 0.40 ERA, and a 17.0 consecutive scoreless innings streak; and Matt Carson, who leads Rochester with a .285 average, 53 hits, 19 extra-base hits, 15 doubles, 17 RBI, 78 total bases, and 24 runs scored. Slama is tied for 5th in the league in saves while Carson is tied for 4th in doubles.
