Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, announced today that the team will wear a commemorative patch in honor of Joseph J. LaGuardia, a former member of the Chiefs Board of Directors who passed away on May 14.

The Chiefs' home jerseys will feature a black patch with "JOE" in white letters on the left sleeve for the remainder of the 2012 season. LaGuardia was a long-standing member of the Chiefs' Third Base, Inc. Night committee and joined the Board of Directors in 2008. After briefly serving in the role of Secretary last year, he was elected Treasurer this past December and served in that capacity until his death.

"Joe LaGuardia was a tremendous friend and advocate for the Syracuse Chiefs," said Chiefs General Manager John Simone. "He was instrumental to the success of the Bob Dylan and Dave Matthews Band concerts that were held at the ballpark in 2009 and he was also a key member of several marketing committees both before and during his time on our board. He will be missed and this patch is our way of honoring his many contributions to the entertainment industry in Syracuse."

LaGuardia was an active member of the Central New York sports and entertainment communities for more than 40 years. He was best known for his time with the Syracuse Eagles and Blazers hockey teams and as the Director of Marketing for the New York State Fair. Joe was also a board member for the Syracuse Sports Corp. and the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame.
