The Red Wings started the trip by winning 3 of 4 at Columbus (Indians). ROSTER NEWS: Lefthander Pedro Hernandez, who was acquired by the Twins along with infielder Eduardo Escobar from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for lefthander Francisco Liriano, today joins the Red Wings.
a Hernandez, 23, began the 2012 season with Double-A Birmingham, going 7-2 with 2.75 ERA in 12 starts before getting promoted to Triple-A Charlotte at the beginning of July. He is 1-0 with a 3.71 ERA in 3 games (2 starts) with the Knights. Hernandez was recalled to the White Sox for a July 18 start at Boston, and he gave up 8 runs on 12 hits in 4.0 innings in his major league debut.
BREAKING BAD: At 55-56, the Red Wings tonight look to get back to the .500 mark for the first time since being 51-51 entering play on July 23. The Wings had spent 5 days in a row at or above the .500 plateau until their 4-0 loss at Durham (Rays) July 23.
a Rochester has won 3 in a row and a win tonight would match their season-best winning streak of 4 games. The Wings have won 4 straight games on 4 occasions, most recently July 12-15, when they swept Toledo at Frontier Field.
a The Wings have also won a season-high 3 straight games on the road for the 2nd time, matching their effort from July 17-19. Rochester last won at least 4 straight road games April 9-19, 2011, when they won 4 in a row.
WINGS FANS, REJOICE: The Red Wings have already won 55 games to eclipse their win total from all of last year. The 2011 club went 53-91 and it was 23 games under .500 at 44-67 at this point last season. The 2010 team was 33 games below .500 at 39-72 at this juncture and went on to finish only 49-95.
a Rochester is off to its best 111-game start since the 2007 squad was 60-51.
LET'S MAKE A PARLAY: The Red Wings finished 18-11 in July, tied for the best record in the International League in that time with Columbus. The 18 wins were Rochester's most in a calendar month since going 20-9 in August 2008. Coupled with a 15-14 record this June, the Red Wings posted back-to-back winning calendar months for the first time since June and July 2007, when they went 16-15 and 18-13, respectively.
a The Red Wings batted .269 with 26 home runs and 139 runs scored in July, their highest totals for any calendar month this season. A look at the breakdown of the offensive upswing:

ROAD TO SUCCESS: The Red Wings are just 19-30 in true road games, but they have won 3 straight, 7 of their last 11, and 8 of their last 13 away from Frontier Field. Rochester has won only 3 road series all year, winning 3 of 4 games at Louisville (Reds) June 14-17, Norfolk (Orioles) July 16-19, and Columbus.
