Indianapolis Indians News Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Every Indianapolis batter collected at least one knock on Thursday night as the Indians set a new season-high with 21 base hits en route to a 13-1 rout of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees at Frontier Field.

The contest was played at in Rochester, N.Y., because Scranton's home park, PNC Field, is undergoing extensive renovations and construction. All four games of the non-divisional series will be played at Frontier Field.

The Tribe's 21 hits set a new season-high, breaking the 19-hit mark Indianapolis had posted on June 11 against Rochester at Victory Field. While all nine batters recorded at least one hit, seven of the Indians put together multi-hit performances.

The Indians made their big charge in a four-run fifth inning, taking the lead in the game for good. C Jose Morales, 2B Anderson Hernandez and SS Chase d'Arnaud led off the frame with back-to-back-to-back singles, the last of which drove home Morales to give the Tribe a 2-1 lead.

Indianapolis extended its lead by two runs when LF Jose Tabata squared up his fifth double of the year, driving in Hernandez and d'Arnaud. Tabata then scored the inning's fourth run on 1B Matt Hague's RBI groundout, putting the Indians ahead 5-1.

With the game well in control already, Indianapolis went on another big charge in the top of the ninth inning, scoring six more runs -- all with two outs. Tabata led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a one-out single by DH Jeff Clement before an infield single by RF Brandon Boggs loaded the bases.

Up next, LF Christian Marrero, who made his first start of the season for Indianapolis, drew a bases-loaded walk to score Tabata. Morales then drove in Clement and Boggs with a single to right, and Hernandez drove in Marrero with a single to center.

After a single by d'Arnaud reloaded the bases, Tabata drove in Morales and Hernandez with a single to center field to push the final tally to 13-1. When all was said and done, Tabata had gone 4-for-6 with four RBI -- a season-high -- and two runs scored.

The Tribe had tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning when 3B Yamaico Navarro drove in Hague, who had doubled, with a two-out single to center field. Scranton had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when SS Eduardo Nunez hit a two-out home run over the left-field fence, his first of the season.

That one home run was the only mistake by Indians righty starter Daniel Cabrera (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 HR), who picked up his fifth win of the season while striking out five Triple-A Yankees. In support of Cabrera, RHP Daniel McCutchen (3.0 IP, 4 K) was perfect through three innings to earn a non-conventional save in a 12-run game.

For Scranton, RHP Adam Warren (5.0 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 1 K) took the loss -- his seventh of the season -- but every Yankees pitcher allowed at least one earned run in the game. Taking the brunt of the Indianapolis beating was LHP Juan Cedeno (1.0 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB), who allowed six earned runs in a seven-hit ninth inning.

In the sixth inning, Marrero led off the frame with his first hit since joining Indianapolis, a home run to right field -- his fifth International League home run of the season. The Indians also scored a lone run in the top of the eighth when Boggs hit his 22nd double of the season to drive in Navarro.

The Tribe (69-44) expects to send LHP Jeff Locke (8-5, 2.83) to mound in Friday's game two, slated to start at 7:05 p.m. The Yankees (61-50) will likely counter with Michael O'Conner (2-5, 4.00).

The game will be carried on WNDE 1260 AM-WFBQ-HD2, WNDE.com and via iheartradio, a mobile application for iPhone, Blackberry and Android phones with Howard Kellman and Will Flemming on the call. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
