DURHAM SANDWICH: The Rochester Red Wings tonight continue their 8-game roadtrip with the 2nd game of a 4-game series at Durham (Rays). The Red Wings started the trip by taking 3 of 4 at Norfolk (Orioles) and losing last night's series opener 7-4. Rochester returns to Frontier Field on Tuesday for a brief 4-game homestand against International League North Division rival Syracuse (Nationals). Then it's back on the road for a pair of 4-game series at Columbus (Indians) and Toledo (Tigers).

a The Red Wings are 5 games into a stretch of playing 16 of 20 games on the road through August 5. Rochester will, however, play 18 of its final 29 games at Frontier Field beginning August 6.

CAN'T LIE ABOUT JULY: Despite last night's setback, the Red Wings are still a league-best 13-5 in July. The Top 5 teams during the month:

Rank Team Record

1. 13-5

2. Buffalo (Mets) 10-7

Columbus 10-7

0 10-7

5. Indianapolis (Pirates) 10-8

a The Red Wings' 3-game winning streak came to an end yesterday at Durham, losing for just the 2nd time in 9 games since the All-Star Break.

a The Wings have still won 8 of their last 11 and 11 of their last 14.

a The Red Wings are 5.0 games out of the IL Wild Card spot and 5.5 games out of first place in the North Division.

KEEPING HEADS ABOVE WATER: The Red Wings tonight enter play at or above the .500 mark for the 3rd day in a row since pulling to 49-49 Wednesday night at Norfolk.

a Since sitting a season-worst 10 games below .500 at 20-30 on May 28, the Red Wings are 30-20.

a Going back further, Rochester is 36-27 beginning May 15. The Wings are also 41-34 beginning May 3, playing better than .500 baseball for more than half the season.

ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS: With 44 games remaining, the Red Wings are already just 3 wins shy of matching last year's win total of 53 and 4 short of eclipsing it. The Red Wings are off to their best 100-game start since the 2007 club went 53-47. A look at the 100-game records for the past few seasons:

Season Record In relation to .500

2012 50-50 0

2011 38-62 -24

2010 37-63 -26

2009 48-52 -4

2008 46-54 -8

2007 53-47 +6

a With 50 wins, the Red Wings have surpassed their win total of 49 from 2010.

a In his 6 seasons as a minor league manager, Gene Glynn's 50 wins are his most in any one season. Granted, he previously managed exclusively in the short-season New York-Penn and Northwest Leagues. His previous high was 49 with the Spokane Indians (Padres) in 1990.

SEASONS OF LOVE: The Red Wings have won 3 season series of 2012, including a 6-2 mark against Norfolk. They also went 6-2 against Louisville (Reds) and 5-3 against Charlotte (White Sox). The Red Wings had only one season series victory in all of 2011, going 5-3 against Louisville. They had none in 2010.

a By losing 4 of the first 5 games of their season series against Durham, the Red Wings can only split the 8-game series at best.

FOUR!!: The Red Wings have scored 4 or more runs in a season-high 9 straight games, accomplishing the feat for the first time since a 9-game streak August 2-11, 2005.

a The Red Wings last scored 4 or more runs in at least 10 consecutive games May 28-June 6, 1995, when they had a 10-game streak.

a The Red Wings still rank last in the IL with 368 runs scored, 32 behind the next closest team Lehigh Valley (Phillies), which has 400.

YOU HEAR ABOUT TSUYOSHI?: Tsuyoshi Nishioka has hit safely in 6 straight games, going 10-for-24 (.417) to raise his average to a season-high .248. The switch-hitter has also hit safely in 12 of his last 13 contests, batting .333 (18-for-54). He collected a season-high 3 hits for the 4th time yesterday at Durham.

HALL PASS: Red Wings alum and FOX broadcaster Tim McCarver today is being honored at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, as the 2012 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award for excellence in baseball broadcasting.

a McCarver joins a group of illustrious Red Wings alumni to have a place in the Hall, joining Bob Gibson, Johnny Mize, Eddie Murray, Stan Musial, Jim Palmer (rehab), Cal Ripken Jr., Red Schoendienst, and managers Frank Robinson and Earl Weaver.

a McCarver is one of 4 current major league broadcasters with Red Wings ties, joining Eric Collins (Dodgers), Glenn Geffner (Marlins), and Josh Lewin (Mets).

THIS DATE IN BASEBALL HISTORY: In 1996, Eddie Murray is traded to the Baltimore Orioles from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for righthander Kent Mercker...Murray returns to the O's just 8 homers shy of the 500 plateau...in 1991, Red Sox outfielder Steve Lyons is put in to pitch in a 14-1 game against the Twins at Fenway Park...he works a scoreless 9th inning as the Twins complete a 4-game sweep.
