Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, Minn.) - Rochester Honkers play-by-play announcer Michael Keeley called his last game as the Voice of the Rochester Honkers Sunday afternoon at home against the La Crosse Loggers. Keeley accepted a job as a Broadcast Manager and Media Relations Manager for the Maine Mariners of the East Coast Hockey League. The Maine Mariners are a minor league affiliate of the New York Rangers.
Keeley has spent two-and-a-half seasons calling Honkers games and was named the Northwoods League co-Play-by-Play Announcer of the year in 2017. Additionally, Keeley has worked as the director of broadcasting, public relations, and group sales for the Austin Bruins of the North American Hockey League since 2015.
Keeley has cherished the relationships he has built being involved with the Honkers organization and is thankful for the opportunity he received.
"I'll miss the people the most. The press box is kind of like a family, and it will be sad not seeing them the rest of the summer," Keeley said. "Also, Thomas, Josh, and Logan are three of the nicest guys I've ever encountered on the coaching side. Dan and Kim too - I owe them a lot for the opportunity to be a part of this organization for two-and-a-half seasons."
Starting July 2, Brett Morton will be the new play-by-play announcer for the remainder of the season. Morton is from Slave Lake, Alberta and has worked as a weekend reporter and an anchor for Newcap Television in Lloydminster, Alberta. He has also worked as a production assistant on Discovery Channel's Hellfire Heroes and has served as a television assistant for Edmonton Oilers hockey games and Edmonton Eskimos football games.
Morton is excited to join the Honkers staff and broaden his horizons in baseball.
"I am excited to get the opportunity to call baseball and improve on my skills as a play-by-play broadcaster," Morton said. "Baseball is America's pastime and in Canada, it's not as prominent."
Listen to Morton call all home and away games on the MSBN Sports Network from rochesterhonkers.com. Access the audio feed from any computer, tablet or smartphone.
