Roberts, McClain Headline Well-Rounded 8-1 Dillas Win

AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas starter Ralph Roberts did the heavy lifting on the pitching side in six and two-thirds innings of one-run baseball, while Terrance McClain did the heavy hitting, going 4-4 with an RBI, two runs and stolen base as the Dillas beat the Edinburg Roadrunners 8-1 on Thursday night in front of 3,215 fans at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa.

Roberts (3-1) did not walk a batter and struck out four, as he lowered his ERA to 2.83, maintaining his spot as the fourth-lowest ERA in the league. Edinburg starter Aaron Guerra (1-3) allowed only two earned runs through five innings plus and gave up nine hits in the loss. After a 55-minute field delay to start the game, Amarillo would get on the board in the third. Andrew Wong doubled with one out while McClain singled him home for the first run of the game. Edinburg would tie the game in the fourth as Vince Blue singled, stole second and third, and scored on a Bryon Smith double to tie the game 1-1.

Amarillo would retake the lead in the fifth as Keanon Simon reached and went to second on an error, and would score on Figueroa's blast down the right field line for a 3-1 Dillas lead.

The Dillas would add another run in the sixth as Simon sent a one-out, bases loaded ball to left field. The ball was caught, but Stantrel Smith tagged and scored from third. Amarillo would put another run on in the seventh as McClain singled for the fourth time, stole his fifth base and scored on a Lockwood RBI single.

Amarillo wouldn't stop there as Lockwood came up with the bases loaded in the eighth and doubled to the right-center field gap to score all three base runners for his league-leading 43rd RBI for an 8-1 Dillas lead.

Dillas reliever Andy Noonan came in for the ninth and pitched a perfect inning, striking out the side, to give the Dillas an 8-1 win.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 19-16, while the Roadrunners fall to 17-18. Thursday, Amarillo will host the Roadrunners for the third game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:55pm online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
