Colts Enjoying Home Stand, Win Fourth Straight

San Angelo, Texas--- Since returning home for the longest home stand of the season, the San Angelo Colts (25-10) have won 9 of their last eleven, all at Foster Field, as they defeated the Coastal Bend Thunder (17-18) this evening with a final score of 6-5.

In the top of the first inning, Coastal Bend struck first as Amadeo Zuzueta lined a homerun down the left field line. Thunder led 1-0.

Heading to the bottom half of the first, Hunter Jobes began the inning with a single and a stolen base. Jason Diaz laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving Jobes to third. An Error on the sacrifice placed Diaz at first. With a two strike count, Ronnie Gaines singled to left driving in Jobes as the Colts tied the game at one. With two runners on, Jason Landreth sent a low line drive over the left field wall, a three run shot which gave San Angelo a three run lead. It was Landreths tenth homerun of the season.

Colts led 4-1 in the bottom of the second inning. Jobes continued to succeed in the leadoff spot beginning the inning with a single. He then reached second on a stolen base. Gaines delivered a line drive to left center sending home Jobes as Ronnie Cruised into second with a double, the Colts took a 5-1 lead.

Jobes doubled to begin the bottom of the fourth inning. After reaching third on a ground out by Diaz, Jobes would come into score from a wild pitch thrown by Thunder starter Zach Beal. That run made it a five run Colts lead.

In the sixth, the Thunder chained three straight singles leading to an RBI single for Bryan Vickers making it a 6-2 contest.

In the top of the eighth, Vickers doubled off the wall to left field scoring Leivi Ventura, as Carlos Rodriguez and Vickers stood at second and third. Felix Cerda grounded a two hopper to short stop. The second hop took a big bounce over the head of Ballez, Rodriguez and Vickers came into score. It became a one run contest.

With a 6-5 lead in the top of the ninth, Chace Vacek entered the game looking for his seventh save. Runners would reach second and third with two outs. Kevin Butler hit a hard shot up the middle. As it caromed off the mound, Ballez ranged to it behind the second base bag, retiring Butler at first as the Colts won their fourth straight and 25th win of the season.

Ezequiel Astacio (5-0) remained perfect with his fifth straight win of the year. The right hander worked five innings allowing just an earned run complimented by three strikeouts. Jameson Maj worked 2/3 of the eighth inning not allowing a run, as Chace Vacek slammed the door in the ninth ining for his seventh save.

Hunter Jobes singled and doubled scoring three runs as the Colts offense collected six runs and six hits. Ronnie Gaines added a single and a double including two RBI's.

San Angelo and Coastal Bend will meet tomorrow for the finale of this four game series. Friday night is Cap Night at Foster Field brought to you by Reliant Energy.
