Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today that the club has released forward Rob Ricci from his professional tryout contract. Ricci was originally signed to a PTO on March 8.
Ricci, 26, played in five games during his time with the Rivermen and did not record a point. He did shoot in three shootouts and scored once, the game-winner against Chicago on March 11. Before joining the Rivermen, Ricci appeared in 60 games for the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL). He leads the Stingrays in both goals (22) and points (48) while his 26 assists are tied for second most. His 22 goals were tied for 16th in the ECHL when he was called up. The second-year pro has played in 136 regular season games in the ECHL. He also played in seven playoff games with the Stingrays in 2008-09 under current Rivermen head coach Jared Bednar.
A native of Brampton, ON, Ricci played three seasons at Merrimack College (2005-08) before turning pro. He is expected to make his American Hockey League debut tonight against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The Rivermen return to action on Saturday in Rockford at 7:05 p.m. in their final meeting of the season with the IceHogs. The game can be heard locally on 96.5 ESPN Radio or can be found online through www.rivermen.net.
