Edmonton Recalls Three from Barons

The Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the Oklahoma City Barons, recalled forwards Chris Vandevelde, Ryan O'Marra and Alex Giroux, Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini announced today.
Vandevelde, is earning his first call up to the Oilers. Edmonton's 4th round selection (97th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft has 16 points (12-4-16) in 66 games with the Barons this season. He has recorded goals in three of his last four games. The 6-2, 204-pounder from Moorhead, Minn. completed a college career at the University of North Dakota where he recorded 117 points (52-65-117) in 166 career games.
O'Marra is making his second appearance with the Oilers this season. He was recalled December 8 and appeared in nine games, scoring three points (1-2-3). The 6-2, 193-pounder has 22 points (2-20-22) in 49 games with the Barons this season. O'Marra was the New York Islanders 1st round choice (15th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Giroux a 6-2, 200-pounder from Quebec City was recalled March 5 by the Oilers and appeared in five games registering a goal and an assist. He leaves for his second stint with Edmonton as the Barons' team leader in goals (29) and points (66). His 66 points are good for second in the AHL, while his 29 goals put him third.
Including the players recalled today, Edmonton has eight players on their roster that began the season in Oklahoma City with the Barons. Vandevelde brings the number of players recalled by the Oilers this season to 11. Others recalled this season include goaltender Martin Gerber, forwards, Liam Reddox, Linus Omark, O'Marra and Giroux and defensemen Shawn Belle, Taylor Chorney, Richard Petiot, Alex Plante and Jeff Petry.
The Barons are on a season-long nine-game road trip that takes them to Rockford, Ill and Chicago this weekend. Faceoff Friday at Rockford and Saturday at Chicago is 7 p.m. (CT). Faceoff Sunday afternoon from Chicago is 3 p.m. (CT).
