Amerks and Knighthawks to Roll the Dice for Charity
March 17, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, March 17)... There will be a lot of rocking and rolling at The Blue Cross Arena on Tuesday, April 5th as the Rochester Americans and Knighthawks will hold their inaugural Casino Night.
The festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. and will include Texas Hold'em, casino games, music, dinner and prizes. Attendees will also be able to meet and mingle with their favorite players from the Amerks and Knighthawks. More importantly, the Knighthawks/Amerks Charitable Foundation will share the net proceeds with two other great charities: WEASE Cares and Camp Good Days and Special Times.
"Finally?! (There's) a Casino in Rochester. It's about time. I can't wait. Me and my buddies can play cards, hang with professional athletes, and lots of kids makin' out through WEASE Cares Children's Fund and Camp Good Days. It's a win, win, win," said Brother Wease.
The event is the third straight season that the teams have hosted a major charity event at the downtown Blue Cross Arena and included both the Amerks and Knighthawks players. Last year, the Rochester Americans and Rochester Knighthawks raised $54,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Rochester.
"We are pleased and excited to team up with WEASE Cares and Camp Good Days & Special Times for what we know will be a fun filled evening at the BCA," said Americans/Knighthawks President Lewis Staats. "A charity casino offers an entertaining and exciting setting for our fans and the people of Rochester to mingle with their favorite Americans and Knighthawks players as we raise money to support three local charities including our own Rochester Knighthawks/Amerks Charitable Foundation. We were looking for an event to replace the CF Celebrity Waiter Dinner that has been a staple for years as CF scaled back operations in Rochester. Teaming up with Brother Wease and Gary Mervis and their great causes allows our players and our foundation the opportunity to continue to support local Rochester people who make a difference by supporting those in need right here in the city of Rochester."
"We are thrilled to be a part of the Rochester Americans and Knighthawks' Inaugural Casino Night, along with WEASE Cares Children's Fund," said Gary Mervis, Chairman & Founder of Camp Good Days. "All of the programs and services provided by Camp Good Days to so many children and families in our community are offered free of charge for the participants, which is only possible because of the support and generosity from so many individuals and organizations, like the Rochester Americans and Knighthawks and all those who will be joining us for Casino Night. The Casino Night is sure to be a fun-filled evening and most importantly, guests will know that they are helping to provide some good days and special times for the children of Camp Good Days."
The Amerks and Knighthawks Casino Night will include a Texas Hold'em Tournament with prizes to the Top 10 finishers. The tournament is limited to 100 players with an entry fee of $100. For $75 or $125 per couple, patrons can also play casino games with prizes being awarded to the Top 3 finishers. All entry fees include access to a buffet throughout the night and a raffle ticket to win prizes.
The event also includes music by Uncle Plum lead singer Elvio Fernandes, a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffles and silent auction items. To register by the Monday, March 21st deadline, please call (585) 454-5335, ext. 3039. You must be 21 years of age or older to register. For more information, go to amerks.com or Knighthawks.net.
