Roadrunners win behind Flores

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- Pedro Flores allowed three runs while scattering seven hits in eight innings pitched to help lift the Edinburg Roadrunners 4-3 over the Coastal Bend Thunder at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium Monday night.

Edinburg was first on the board after an RBI single by Hunter Owen that scored Wilmer Pino from third which gave Flores an early 1-0 lead after the first inning.

In the top of the fourth inning Carlos Rodriguez hit a two-run home run to deep left field that gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead.

The Coastal Bend (21-24) extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Alfred Joseph that scored Chris Lewis from third which made it a 3-1 game.

Edinburg (21-24) responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning against Coastal Bend starter J.J Trujillo starting with Robert Matlock, who reached second base on an error by Trujillo and then came into score on an RBI single by Carlos Hereaud that made it 3-2.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Pino hit his first home run as a Roadrunner to deep left field that tied the game at three.

Vincent Blue hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left field off of Thunder reliever David Parker (2-2) in the bottom of the eighth inning which proved to be the game-winner giving the Roadrunners the 4-3 win.

Kelley Casares pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the second game of this four-game series Tuesday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Eric Montoya (2-1) is expected to face Toro Trevino (4-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
