Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas and San Angelo Colts traded outs for most of Monday night as a well-pitched game saw the Colts come out on top for a 2-1 win in front of 5,925 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas starter Ralph Roberts (4-2) went an out past eight innings and gave up only one run and eight hits while striking out six. Colts starter Ezequiel Astacio (6-1) got the win, allowing only one run and five hits while also striking out six. San Angelo closer Chase Vacek got his eighth save, pitching a scoreless ninth in the effort.

For the 27th time this season, the Colts scored first. Ronnie Gaines led off with a single to center, that Keanon Simon bobbled to send Gaines to second. After a Jason Diaz sacrifice bunt moved Gaines to third, Brian Fritcher grounded out to the shortstop, but scored the runner for an early lead. In the fourth, Diaz tripled and scored on a Fritcher sacrifce fly to give the Colts a 2-0 lead.

Amarillo would cut the lead in half in the fourth as Carlos Figueroa singled, stole second and scored on a Trent Lockwood RBI single for a 2-1 deficit.

Both teams would find base runners in short supply, but the Dillas had their best opportunity to tie the game in the sixth. Astacio allowed a leadoff double to Andrew Wong, who moved to third on a Figueroa groundout. With the infield in and the runner on third, Terrance McClain hit a sharp ball to left center, but shortstop Butch Ballez jumped and made the catch to keep Wong at third. Lockwood struck out looking to end the inning, and was ejected from the game arguing the call.

Colts relievers faced 12 batters, allowed one hit but retired them all for a 2-1 San Angelo win.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 24-21, while the Colts improve to 32-13. Tuesday, Amarillo will host the first-place Colts for the second game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:55 pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
