St. George RoadRunners News Release

ST. GEORGE - The St. George RoadRunners opened their current six-game homestand with solid offensive output from the top to the bottom of the lineup to blast past the visiting Tucson Toros 12-7 on Friday night at Bruce Hurst Field.

Henry Calderon went 4-for-4 with four runs scored to pace the St. George bats and Brett Flowers added three hits and three RBI. The 2-3-4-5 hitter block (Calderon, Jermy Acey, Yosvanny Almario and Flowers) went a combined 11-for-15 on the night.

Tuscon's offense didn't lack early in the game. After a pair of first-inning walks from STG starter Jon Dutton, Lino Garcia wrapped the first pitch he saw around the left field pole for a three-run homer.

Dutton would leave the game in the fourth inning with a groin injury. Kyle Boggio earned the win allowing one run on four hits over 2.1 innings. Monte Mansfield tossed two scoreless innings scattering one lone hit.

The RoadRunners responded with a three-spot in the bottom of the inning highlighted by an Almario double.

Josh Womack added a solo blast and Wally Backman, Jr. lined an RBI single to give the Toros back the lead 5-3. But once again, St. George responded by taking the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Toros starter James Garcia (L, 0-1) loaded the bag by plunking Calderon and walking both Acey and Almario. Flowers picked up Calderon with a sacrifice fly. After another walk reloaded the bags, C.J. Lang was hit by a pitch forcing in Acey. Dutton cashed in the final tally with an infield single to third.

St. George pushed the lead to 8-5 in the fourth and sprinted ahead with a three-run fifth. Vic Buttler doubled home a run as did Acey with a single. Calderon would score from third when a Tucson pickoff attempt from home plate got away from first baseman Cristobal Santana.

Calderon completed his great night with an RBI double in the seventh plating Buttler.

Tucson scored a run in the ninth off Rob Naegele, but fell short of a bigger comeback.

The teams reconvene on Saturday for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 4:05pm. Matt Rossignol and Brian Holliday are tabbed to start for the RoadRunners. Tucson expects to counter with John Bannister and Cody Walden.
