Victoria Seals News Release
Looking for their first road win of the 2010 season, the Victoria Seals returned to Hi Corbett Field for game three against the Tucson Toros on Thursday evening. Turning to former Seattle Mariners product Aaron Trolia (0-1) for the start, the Seals faced off against left-hander Matt Lincoln (0-1) in the series finale.
The Toros were first to strike for the third consecutive game, jumping on Trolia in the bottom half of the first inning. A lead-off triple from Josh Womack made it a 1-0 game when a double courtesy of Jose Valdez cashed the runner from third.
Tucson added another when the next batter, Lino Garcia, sent Valdez home on a groundout to make it 2-0 home side. With their starter cruising on the mound, the Toros went on to load the bases in three consecutive innings against the Seals, but failed to add insurance, maintaining a 2-0 lead into the fourth frame.
Pulling back within one with the help of a triple from Wilver Perez, who later scored on a sacrifice fly from Colin Moro. Restoring their two-run advantage in the next half-inning, Tucson used a triple of their own from Valdez to set up an RBI groundout off the bat of Garcia for a 3-1 score.
With four more scoreless innings in the books, the Seals staged an improbable rally in the top half of the ninth inning. After a strike out, throw out double play pushed Victoria to their final out, a single from Sean Smith brought the game-tying run to the dish. Perez then ripped a single into left field, that got through Garcia and rolled all the way to the wall allowing Perez to go from home to home and tie the game at 3-3.
After a highlight reel double play from Toros shortstop Ryan Priddy and a fantastic play at the plate from Josh Arhart to end the Tucson threat in the tenth inning, the home side finally broke through in the eleventh frame. A lead-off single from Garcia scored from second base on the game-winning base hit from Christobal Santana, giving Tucson a 4-3 walk-off victory.
Aaron Easton came into the game in relief for the Seals and was charged with his first loss of the season, while Andrew Snowden earns the win out of the bullpen for the Toros. Four hits from both Jose Valdez and Christobal Santana proved to be the difference in the game as Tucson completes the sweep of the Seals.
