Dessau Delivers Excellent Start
June 4, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Calgary Vipers News Release
For the second straight night the Calgary Vipers got a terrific pitching performance from their starter in a 3-2 victory over the Orange County Flyers at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Erik Dessau (2-0) threw terrific for the Vipers as he went seven innings and gave up only one run while not walking a batter and striking out four. Dessau had pin-point control on the night throwing 73 strikes to only 33 balls while also going one-for-one at the plate with his first career run batted in. With the victory the Snakes have won two straight games, improve to 8-4 on the Golden Baseball League season, and remain in second place in the North Division.
At the plate Calgary was led by Julio Ramirez who was three-for-three with a home run, Guillermo Reyes who went three-for-five with a RBI, and Luis Taveras who was two-for-three with a walk.
Out of the bullpen Brian Oliver came into the game in the eighth inning with two runners on and struck out both batters he faced to protect the two run lead. Rene Miniel (1) recorded the save in leaving the tying run in scoring position in the ninth inning.
Three consecutive singles in the top of the first inning by the Flyers' Derek Perren, Jimmy Rohan, and Ben Johnson plated the game's first run for a 1-0 lead.
With one swing of the bat the Vipers tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning as Julio Ramirez lined his team leading third home run of the season.
The Vipers took the lead at 3-1 in the fourth frame as three straight singles from Jonny Kaplan, Caonabo Cosme, and Luis Taveras loaded the bases for the pitcher Dessau who hit a sacrifice fly and Guillermo Reyes cashed a run with a base knock.
In the ninth the Flyers closed to within one run at 3-2 when Keith Ginter walked, Jim Goethals singled, and Sergio Pedroza drove in one with a base hit.
