Fort Worth Cats News Release

Fort Worth, TX -- The Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Fort Worth Cats 10-4 on Saturday night at LaGrave Field.

Edinburgh designated hitter Carlos Hereand had two base-clearing triples in the first and sixth innings of Saturday's game. Hereand finished 2-for-5 with one run and five runs batted in. Hereand's first triple was part of a four-run first inning against Fort Worth starter Trevor Harden that put the Roadrunners on top early.

Harden (1-3) pitched five innings and allowed six runs on five hits. Harden struck out and walked four batters. In four innings of relief, Steve Barnes and Brandon Wilkerson allowed two runs each.

Only two Cats, third baseman Jon Dziomba and designated hitter Chad Gabriel, had multiple hits in the game going 2-for-5 and 2-for-4 respectively. The Cats left ten batters on base and blew two bases-loaded situations in the third and seventh innings. In both situations the Cats could only muster up one run.

Edinburg reliever Rusty Jones (1-0) earned the win with 2 2/3 innings of relief for starter Aaron Tullo. Jones shut out the Cats, struck out two, and only allowed a base hit to Gabriel.

Cats' right fielder Chuck Caufield left the game in the top of the fourth with back stiffness and will join shortstop Shelby Ford, who is still suffering from a spring training hamstring injury, on the day-to-day list.

The Roadrunners' record improves to 9-8 and sit 2.5 games behind the first place Cats. The Cats, now 11-5, hold only a one game lead over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.

The Cats and Roadrunners will face off again Sunday evening at 6:05 p.m. at LaGrave Field. All tickets are just five dollars and can be purchased by logging on to FWCats.com or calling (817) 332-CATS.
