Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release
SAN ANGELO, TX - For the fifth time this season, the Prairie Dogs took the field aiming to start their first win streak of 2012. And while the early innings had the makings of another down-to-the-wire duel between these rival squads, San Angelo found the solution to Adam Rowe and won going away, 6-1.
After the Prairie Dogs picked up the game's first run in the second when Tylor Prudhomme knocked in Wilson Batista with a groundout, Logan Williamson and the Colts bullpen locked up the Prairie Dogs' lineup, allowing no runs and five hits over the last seven frames.
Rowe, who entered the game with a pair of wins and 0.84 ERA, allowed the first run in the fourth inning when J.J. Sherrill scored on a wild pitch. However, it was the bottom of the fifth that was home to Colts' offensive outburst.
Jamar Walton began the frame with a single to left. When Josh Banda followed with a double off the left-field wall, Walton tried to score from first but was thrown out at the plate when Jason Martin played the carom cleanly and Zach Welch blocked the plate and tagged out the runner aiming to score from first. That was the only break that the Prairie Dogs would find in the fifth. Jason Diaz, in his first start with the Colts, followed up with another double to put runners on second and third. The next batter, Ronnie Gaines, produced a sacrifice fly to centerfield, handing the Colts their first lead of the game, 2-1.
The onslaught did not stop there as J.J. Sherrill followed with a single and Daryl Jones knocked in his 14th run of the season with a single of his own. Rowe finally retired the side by fanning Cory Patton and stranding two runners on base. By the time Rowe reached the dugout the Colts had seized a 4-1 lead.
In his last inning of work, Rowe gave up his fifth and final run on a Jason Diaz R.B.I. single. Rowe allowed five runs on 12 hits over six innings and suffered his first loss of the year.
Ben Tootle appeared out of the bullpen for the second time this season and despite allowing a homerun to designated hitter Cory Patton, Tootle struck out the side - he fanned four batters over two innings.
Logan Williamson pitched six-and-a-third innings, allowing five hits and a single run as he picked up his third win of the season.
The Prairie Dogs drop to 6-10 and the Colts move to 9-7. Abilene's nine-game road trip comes to an end with a 6:05 first pitch on Sunday in San Angelo. Hear the pre-game on KLGD at 5:55.
