Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release

ABILENE, TX -- The Cats continued their dominance of Walt Driggers Field with a 14-2 thrashing of the Prairie Dogs on Thursday night in Abilene.

Blake Nation made his fourth consecutive start against the Dogs and had little trouble with a depleted Abilene roster. After trading Jason Martin, Eddie Browne, Joe Weik, and Kyle Nichols - the first four hitters in the Dogs' lineup on Tuesday - the Dogs offense sputtered.

Nation lasted eight innings and gave up just two runs (one earned) on only three hits while striking out seven on the way to his 10th win of the year. The big righty from Georgia got himself into a little trouble with six walks, but the Dogs struggled to find the timely hit all evening.

Scott Vander Weg made his third start of the season - all against Fort Worth - and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits over four innings en route to his eighth loss of the year.

Antoin Gray knocked in the game's first run with a double in the first inning, and Scott Dalrymple drove in his 17th run of the year with a double in the second. Still in the second, Jon Dziomba roped a run-scoring single to right field, and Fort Worth took a 3-1 lead.

After three more tallies in the top of third to widen the lead to 6-1, the Cats erupted for six runs in a top of the fifth inning that saw 10 Cats' batters come to the plate. Every Fort Worth starter other than Adam Gordon collected a hit in the fifth, and Kenny Gilbert highlighted the frame with a pinch-hit, two-run double to right field. As the Dogs came to bat in the bottom of the fifth, they trailed 12-2

Jon Dziomba (4-6) and Chuck Caufield (4-5) both collected four knocks while Antoin Gray and R.J. Harris chipped in with three hits and two R.B.I.s a piece.

It was the first of a five game series that will end in Fort Worth on Sunday night. Tomorrow is fan appreciation night at Walt Driggers Field. Fans will receive an assortment of giveaway items prior to the last Prairie Dogs' home game in 2012. If you cannot make it the park, hear the game on 106.9 KLGD or on the internet at abileneprairiedogs.com beginning with the First Financial Pregame Show at 6:55.
