
Flores Leads Roadrunners to Comeback Victory

EDINBURG, Texas - Osiel Flores went 3-for-4 with four RBI leading the Edinburg Roadrunners to a 6-5 come from behind victory over the McAllen Thunder Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth, Flores delivered his fourth RBI of the night with an RBI single to left field that allowed Joe Weik to score from third tying the game at five.
The Roadrunners (52-33) fell behind early as the Thunder (30-55) grabbed the 3-0 lead in the top of the first against Aaron Tullo.
In the bottom of the second, Edinburg got an RBI single from Flores that scored Felix Molina making it 3-1.
With runners on the corners, Molina grounded into a double play in the bottom of the fourth that allowed Derek Perren to score cutting the Thunder's lead 3-2.
McAllen got a couple of runs in the top of the fifth after a two-run triple by Gianison Rosa that extended their lead 5-2.
Edinburg inched their way back in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded Flores again delivered a clutch two-run single that got the Roadrunners within one 5-4.
After Flores tied the game with his fourth RBI of the night in the bottom of the eighth, Stantrel Smith started the bottom of the ninth with a single to left. After stealing his third base of the game, giving him 55 stolen bases on the season, Smith came in to score the winning run on a throwing error giving Edinburg the 6-5 victory.
Rusty Jones and Tetsuya Iwasaki combined for four scoreless and hitless innings. Iwasaki (4-0) got the win after pitching the eighth and ninth innings.
Adrian Garza (0-1) took the loss for the Thunder after giving up two runs in two innings of work.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will play their second game of this four-game series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Miguel Martinez (10-4) is expected to pitch Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
