San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- A six-run first inning propelled the Colts to a 13-1 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Thursday night at Foster Field.
The first eight batters of the game reached base for the Colts. Seven of the eight recorded a hit and the other drew a walk against WhiteWings' starter Erinzon Bautista (2-2). Bautista failed to record an out, giving up five runs on as many hits for the loss.
Rio Grande Valley responded with a run in the top of the second, but San Angelo exploded for four more runs in the fourth.
First baseman Daryl Jones led the inning off with a solo home run into right field. It was his ninth homer of the year. Left fielder Cory Patton and catcher Salvador Paniagua then scored on an two-RBI single by second baseman Mark Ramos. Shortstop Danny Hernandez drove in Ramos with another RBI base hit.
After giving up a run early in the game, Colts' starter Mark Willinsky went on to pitch six shutout innings. Willinsky (9-5) allowed the one run, scattered six hits and struck out eight batters for the victory. He joins Logan Williamson as the only two Colts' pitchers with nine wins this season.
The win improves San Angelo to 44-41, while the loss drops Rio Grande Valley to 48-36. This series continues Friday night at Foster Field.
It will be Casey the Colt Bobblehead Giveaway Night, sponsored by West Central Wireless. The first 1,000 fans through the front gates will get a Casey the Colt Bobblehead, courtesy of West Central Wireless. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
