Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Fort Worth Cats defeated the San Angelo Colts 7-3 in the first game and 6-3 in the night cap of Friday's doubleheader at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth, TX.

Third baseman Brandon Jones and designated hitter Chuck Caufield were once again the highlights of the Fort Worth box score scoring seven of the Cats' 14 runs on their own. Jones was 4-for-7 with three runs and two runs batted in. Chuck Caufield was 3-for-7 with four runs scored. Shortstop/catcher Scott Dalrymple also knocked in two runs and batted 3-for-5.

"I just try to come out and do my job...If that's being a cheerleader, I'll definitely do it," Jones said.

The Cats' offense combined with consistent pitching led to the two Fort Worth wins. Tim Haines (2-0) started the first game of the doubleheader and lasted five innings and allowed three unearned runs on five hits. Haines struck out five and walked four.

Blake Nation (2-0) got the start in the second game and put up similar numbers going five innings allowing one run on three hits. Nation struck out four and walked three. T.J. Bozeman picked up his second save of the season.

"I think I walked too many people, but I had good defense behind me," Nation said.

The entire San Angelo offense can be accredited to right-fielder Jamar Walton who picked up the Colts' only three RBIs. Walton was 2-for-5 on the day. First baseman Daryl Jones and second baseman Adam De La Garza were the only other two San Angelo players to have multiple hits going 2-for-6 and 3-for-5 respectively.

San Angelo starter Mark Willinsky (1-1) got crushed early in his five inning outing allowing five runs on five hits in the first three innings and one run on three hits in his other two innings. Willinsky struck out and walked three batters.

Brian Henschel (1-2) got the loss in his complete game in the second half of the double header. In six innings, Henschel allowed six runs on eleven hits. Henschel struck out four and only walked one.

The Cats and Colts will still have one game to make up from the rainy week in Fort Worth. The Colts will return home to face the Abilene Prairie Dogs tomorrow night at 7:05 at Foster Field. The Cats will continue their homestand against the Edinburgh Roadrunners at 7:05 at LaGrave Field.

San Angelo's record falls to 8-5 and drop to third place in the South Division of the North American League. The Cats now lead the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings by two games with a record of 11-4.
