Road Trip Begins with Shutout Loss at Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB - The Calgary Hitmen opened a stretch of eight straight games away from Scotiabank Saddledome with a 2-0 loss to the Winnipeg ICE on Tuesday night at Wayne Fleming Arena.

Ben Zloty in the first period and Tanner Brown in the middle frame provided the games only goals.

Hitmen netminder Brayden Peters made 35 saves in a third star performance while Daniel Hauser turned aside 14 shots to record the shutout.

On the special teams front the penalty killers won the night as Winnipeg went 0-3 on the power play and the Hitmen 0-2.

With now 15 games left in the regular season, Calgary is tied with Swift Current and Prince Albert for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

The Hitmen road trip resumes tomorrow, Wednesday, March 9 in Brandon against the Wheat Kings before making stops in Moose Jaw (Mar. 11), Regina (Mar. 12), Winnipeg (Mar. 15), Brandon (Mar. 16), Edmonton (Mar. 18) and Medicine Hat (Mar. 26).

Calgary won't return to Scotiabank Saddledome until Sunday, March 27 to host the Swift Current Broncos in the Every Child Matters game at 2:00 p.m.
