York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution absorbed a difficult start to an eight-game road trip, losing 15-2 to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Thursday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium in their most lopsided defeat of the season thus far. York will look to rebound on Friday night as the series continues in Waldorf, Md.
Southern Maryland took advantage of three defensive mistakes in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead and never looked back. Two errors and a failure to cover first on a bunt single ignited the rally, which scored its first run on a fielder's choice grounder by Jose Julio-Ruiz, a play that also produced another run when first baseman Chad Tracy's throw to second sailed into left field. Jose Salas followed with a two-run double to cap the first inning outburst.
Southern Maryland scored twice more in the second on an RBI single by Renny Osuna, and a run-scoring double from Julio-Ruiz. They would add further on a two-run homer to left by Alvin Colina in the third, and a solo shot to left field by Wladimir Sutil later in the inning, making it 9-0.
The Blue Crabs continued to pile on runs with an RBI double from Osuna in the fifth, a three-run homer to left by Colina in the sixth, and two more in the seventh on an RBI double to left by Salas and an RBI single to right by Jake Opitz, producing the most runs allowed in a game by the Revs this season.
Every batter from the second through eighth spots in Southern Maryland's lineup had multiple hits, with Colina's 3-for-5, two-homer, five-RBI game out of the eighth spot being the most prolific.
On the flip side, the Revs were one out away from being handed their worst shutout loss in team history, but with two outs in the ninth, Wilson Batista singled up the middle, and Andres Perez lined a two-run homer to left-center, his seventh of the year, to provide the final margin. The Revs had only managed two hits previously all night: a double by Batista in the first, and a triple by Chad Tracy leading off the fifth that failed to score.
Blue Crabs starter Gaby Hernandez (5-9) earned his second straight win against the Revs, and fifth in his last six starts after starting the year 0-8. Hernandez allowed just two hits in seven scoreless innings, walked none, and struck out seven. He now owns a 1.76 ERA over his last five outings.
The Revs have gone two games without drawing a walk, and have struck out 18 times in those two games, including 10 times on Thursday night.
York starter Nick Green (3-4) took the loss in his first visit to his former home ballpark, tagged with 10 runs, eight earned, on 11 hits in 4.2 innings of work.
The Revs, now just 4-10 against Southern Maryland this season, will look to rebound with Chris Cody (8-5, 3.53) matching up against Daryl Thompson (7-4, 3.41) in Friday's game at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, YorkRevolution.com, and on the Shoutcast phone app (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
