Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

WALDORF, Md. - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs entered Wednesday's night game versus the Long Island Ducks looking to finish off their road trip with a victory against the Liberty Division leading Ducks. From the first Ducks hitter, the Blue Crabs knew they were going to be in for a battle if they wanted to finish the road trip with a winning record. LHP Michael Ballard took to the hill looking to earn his seventh win of the season but was unsuccessful in his quest, as he would only last two innings.

Long Island started the scoring early when leadoff man, Joash Brodin, hit his ninth homerun of the season to lead off the game. The Ducks would do the majority of their damage in the second when they sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs on four hits. The Blue Crabs would not lay down however as they put up two runs in the second and then in the third, leftfielder, Cyle Hankerd, would hit his 20th homerun on the season. And even after the Blue Crabs scored two more runs in the fifth, they wouldn't be able to overcome the deficit as the Ducks would shut down the their bats down late and hang on for the 10-6 victory.

UP NEXT - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs return home to take on the York Revolution in a four-game series beginning on Thursday at 7:05pm. The Blue Crabs will send RHP Gaby Hernandez (4-9, 5.40 ERA) to the mound against the Revolution's RHP Nick Green (3-3, 4.32 ERA). To listen to the Blue Crabs tune in to www.phoenixintermedia.com.
