ASHEVILLE, NC - The best road team in the South Atlantic League proved themselves again on Thursday as the Lakewood BlueClaws defeated the Asheville Tourists 6-4. The BlueClaws are now 27-16 on the road.

For the second straight day the BlueClaws (15-12) took a big lead early and for the second straight day the BlueClaws hit a home run in the inning to help them to their lead. In the second inning the newest BlueClaw TJ Warren was hit by a pitch and Travis Mattari walked before Troy Hanzawa came to the plate. More know for his defensive prowess, Hanzawa hit his second home run of the season, a three-run shot and the BlueClaws took a 3-0 lead.

They added to their lead in the fifth as Travis d'Arnaud doubled and then scored as Warren reached on a fielding error by the Tourists third baseman. With the run the BlueClaws led 4-0.

The Tourists got on the board with their first run making it 4-1 but in the top of the sixth, D'Arby Myers reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on a single by Anthony Gose.

With a 5-1 lead, the BlueClaws couldn't get comfortable because the Tourists (16-10) would make their comeback in both the bottom of the sixth and the seventh. In the sixth, Jordan Pacheco singled to lead things off before singles by Kiel Roling, Ryan Peisel, Joe Massey and Beau Seabury. The barrage of singles led to two runs and a 5-3 ballgame.

Freddy Ballestas (1-1) started for the BlueClaws and was taken out with two outs in the sixth. He allowed three runs on eight hits and one strikeout. He left with the lead and Ryan Bergh came in to finish the inning and pitch the seventh.

In the seventh, Roling hit a solo home run, his tenth, to make it a slim 5-4 advantage. Bergh then ran into trouble and loaded the bases before Rob Roth came in and got the final out of the inning.

In the eighth, BJ Rosenberg came on for another two out save and as he has done all season long, Rosenberg preserved the lead and picked up his 16th save. Rosenberg has now gone 21.1 consecutive innings without allowing a run dating back to May 31st.

Jonnathan Aristil (1-5) picked up the loss as he went 5.1 innings allowing eight hits and five runs, four earned.

The BlueClaws added a run of insurance in the top of the ninth on a base hit, bunt and two wild pitches as Myers came in to score.

With the win, the BlueClaws go to three games over .500 for the first time in the second half and 19 games over .500 overall. They had previously failed in their first six attempts at that mark.

The BlueClaws and Tourists will play game three of their four-game series on Friday at 7:05 pm. The BlueClaws will send Jesus Sanchez (6-5) to the mound, Sanchez has been an outstanding surprise this season with the BlueClaws. The Tourists will look to Parker Fraizer (7-6).
