Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Thursday's game between the Drive and Delmarva Shorebirds (50-45, 14-12) would not be classified as a pitcher's duel. The two teams showed off their offensive muscle combining for 21 runs and 29 hits.

However, it was the hometown Drive (51-43, 12-14) who came out on the wrong side, losing 13-8 in front of 5,854 fans at Fluor Field.

Brock Huntzinger (5-8) got off to a very shaky start, surrendering five runs in the first inning. The right-hander, who suffered his fifth consecutive loss, allowed another run in the second before heading to the showers early.

Trailing 7-0, the Drive mounted a comeback with five runs of their own in the bottom of the third. All of the runs came with two outs in the frame as Oscar Tejeda drew a bases loaded walk, Will Middlebrooks collected a three-run double, and Ty Weeden added an RBI-single.

But the Shorebirds scoring barrage would not end, as they scored six more runs in the contest. In addition to Huntzinger, Greenville used Lance McClain and Mitch Herold out of the bullpen, both of whom would not go unscathed by Delmarva's potent offense.

Ty Kolodny belted a two-run homer off McClain in the top of the sixth before the Shorebirds added three runs - one earned - off Herold in the top of the eighth.

Down by six, the Drive concluded their scoring with a pair of runs in their final at bat. Jered Stanley laced a two-out single and scored as Tejeda followed with an RBI-double. Middlebrooks then concluded his four-RBI night with a run-scoring single.

With neither starter last more than three innings, Brent Allar (1-3) picked up the win for Delmarva with 2-1/3 innings in relief. Left-hander Brett Bordes was the only pitcher of the seven used between the two teams that did not surrender a run.

The Drive and Shorebirds meet in game three of their four-game series on Friday with first pitch set for 7:05 PM at Fluor Field. Right-hander Caleb Clay will toe the rubber for Greenville as Delmarva counters with Nathan Moreau (4-2, 3.29 ERA).

At the conclusion of tomorrow's game, fans will enjoy a spectacular fireworks display. Single-game tickets, group outings, and luxury accommodations can be purchased by calling (864) 240-4500 or visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com for more information.
