Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 17, 2011) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Road Warriors 14-5 on Sunday night to earn a sweep of the three-game set at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Road Warriors took an early 4-0 lead in the first against Ducks' starter Mike Parisi. RBI singles from Carlos Sosa and Josh Johnson highlighted the frame. The Ducks closed within two in the bottom of the first on Ray Navarrete's two-run homer to left-center field off former-Duck Jason Norderum.
Long Island put up a four-spot of their own in the second to storm ahead 6-4. A sac fly from Navarrete, a two-run single by Matt Esquivel, and a RBI groundout from J.R. House did the damage. Five more runs in the third on Javier Colina's two-run single and Lew Ford's three-run blast to left and three more in the sixth on a RBI double by Tom Pennino and a two-run double by Dan Lyons put the game away.
Parisi (6-4) settled down to pick up the win, going six innings, allowing just the four runs (one earned) while striking out six. Norderum (1-2) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on seven hits in just two and one-third innings.
Pennino, Lyons, and Esquivel each picked up three hits at the plate while Navarrete and Ford each had three RBI. Chris McCoy earned his first save with three innings of relief.
