Patriots Power Past Sharks 9-1

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Camden Riversharks 9-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.

Somerset scored to take the lead in the bottom of the first after Fernando Cortez singled and came around to score on an RBI single by Josh Pressley.

Camden answered with a run of their own in the top of the second on a solo homerun to left field by Alvin Colina (1).

The Patriots regained the lead in the fifth after Michael Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to left to bring home Joe Holden and make the score 2-1.

Somerset broke open the game, scoring six runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a grand slam to left field by Holden (1) for the 8-1 advantage.

A solo blast by Matt Hagen (6) to left field in the seventh added another run for the Patriots to make the score 9-1.

Patriots starter Derrick Gordon (6-0) picked up his sixth win in as many starts after allowing a run in 6.1 innings pitched. Riversharks starter Josh Towers (3-5) got the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits in five innings pitched.

The 2011 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Monday night as the Patriots take on the Lancaster Barnstormers.
