Roach Loaned to Quad City
March 2, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, are pleased to announce that defenseman Brandon Roach has been loaned to the American Hockey Leagues Quad City Flames. Roach will make his American Hockey League debut when he joins the Flames tomorrow afternoon.
The native of Bay Roberts, Newfoundland has played in 55 games this season for the Jackals where he has netted nine goals and added 23 assists for 32 points. The 6'2'' 200 pounder places 10th on the leader board for all ECHL defensemen.
While only spending 18 minutes in the penalty box this season, Roach has been one of the defensive anchors on the Jackals power play. Of Roach's nine goals, five of them are on the man advantage, while only eight of his 23 assists have been at even strength.
"Quad City had several defenseman injured over the weekend, which translates to a great opportunity for Brandon" Said Jackals head coach Steve Martinson. "This is the time of year when it gets dicey for us ECHL coaches that have track records of loaning players. You have to balance opportunity for deserving players with the ability to field a full lineup that's good enough to win games. I know Las Vegas is really short and Quad City has had to go elsewhere without a lot of success . You don't want to be taken advantage of by teams that don't use their own affiliates top players even when, in some cases, their under contract and leading their teams in scoring." stated Martinson.
