Everblades' Baker Three Shy Of 50 Goals

Kevin Baker of the Florida Everblades leads the ECHL with 47 goals in 56 games and he needs only three goals to become the first player to score 50 goals since 2000-01. The 47 goals are a career best for Baker, who had 36 goals in 62 games for Texas in 2006-07, and break the team record of 40 goals by Brian McCullough in 2003-04.

Andrew Williamson of Toledo led the league in 2000-01 with 52 goals in 66 games and in 1999-2000 with 63 goals in 63 games. There have been 41 players in ECHL history who have scored 50 goals. The most goals in the last seven seasons was 49 by Chris Minard of Alaska in 2004-05 while the second most is 47 by Mike Wirll, who played for Cincinnati, Pensacola and Utah in 2006-07. The ECHL record is 85 goals by Trevor Jobe of Nashville in 1992-93.

Baker also leads the league with a career-high 83 points and he needs only four points to tie the Everblades record of 87 points set by Tom Buckley in 1999-2000 and tied by McCullough in 2003-04. He is first in the league with a team record 22 power-play goals, 40 power-play points and 10 game-winning goals.

Wes Goldie of Victoria is second with 42 goals in 57 games after leading the league in 2007-08 with 42 goals after finishing second with 41 goals in 2006-07. He is 13th in league history with 239 career goals in 468 games. He and his brother, Ash Goldie, made history in 2007-08 when they became the first set of teammates and the first set of brothers to lead the league in goal scoring after finishing with 42 goals and 40 goals, respectively.

The last time there were two 50-goal scorers in the ECHL was 1999-2000 when Williamson had 63 goals and Jay Murphy of Louisiana had 55 goals in 69 games.

Sellouts In Alaska, Wheeling Help Attendance Increase

Sellouts in Alaska and Wheeling and more than 16,000 in Florida, almost 18,000 in South Carolina and 23,000 in Stockton helped the ECHL surpass 2.5 million fans for the 16th consecutive season and raise its average attendance to 4,101 per game.

The 5,410 on Saturday was the first sellout in Wheeling since 5,596 on Feb. 26, 2005 and the largest crowd at WesBanco Arena since 5,235 on Apr. 4, 2006. The Aces had 6,451 on Friday which was the second sellout of the season and the eighth time in the regular season that there has been a standing-room-only crowd at Sullivan Arena.

Florida raised its average to 5,595 per game to move into second place in average attendance after drawing over 16,000 for three games against Johnstown while South Carolina welcomed almost 18,000 for three games, including 7,355 on Saturday, to increase attendance to 4,819 per game.

Stockton had over 23,000 for four games to raise its league-leading attendance to 6,202 per game while Ontario raised its average to 5,425 per game after having more than17,000 for three games.
