
Riversharks Sweep Day-Night Double Header

Camden, NJ - The Camden Riversharks (17-18) defeated the Somerset Patriots (15-20) in both games of the day-night double header, handing the Patriots their seventh straight loss.
Game 1: 9-6 Camden
In the bottom of the first inning Riversharks third baseman Marquez Smith laced an RBI single up the middle to put the Riversharks on the board with a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second inning the Riversharks plated three more runs on four hits. Designated hitter Eduardo Perez and catcher Chris Caves each recorded RBI doubles while an additional run scored on shortstop Rex Rundgren's throwing error making the score 4-0 in favor of the Riversharks.
In the top of the fourth inning Patriots left fielder Freddie Bynum extended his hitting streak to 18 games with a single down the right field line. Bynum would later score on a throwing error by Riversharks first baseman Brian Burgamy.
In the ensuing half inning Riversharks left fielder Chris Walker hit a line drive home run (1) over the right field wall to expand the lead to 5-1.
Walker would collect his second RBI of the game in the bottom of the sixth frame as he notched an RBI single to make the score 6-1.
In the top of the seventh inning Rundgren extended his hitting streak to seven games with an RBI infield single to make the score 6-2.
In the bottom of the seventh inning the Riversharks would add three more insurance runs. Burgamy, center fielder Drew Macias and Perez each tallied RBI singles as the Riversharks extended their lead to 9-2.
In the top of the eighth inning the Patriots would scratch across three runs. Right fielder Freddy Sandoval laced an RBI double down the right field line then the following batter catcher Yusuf Carter slugged a two-run home run (3) over the left center field wall to make the score 9-5.
In the top of the ninth inning Patriots designated hitter Jesse Hoorelbeke hammered his Atlantic League leading ninth home run of the season. His solo blast made the score 9-6, which would be the final score.
Game 2: 8-6 Camden
In the bottom of the first inning the Riversharks scored on an RBI groundout by first baseman Brian Burgamy and on an RBI single by designated hitter Eduardo Perez to make the score 2-0 as the Sharks had an early advantage.
In the bottom of the second inning the Riversharks plated two more runs as right fielder Colin Roberson belted an opposite field two run home run (2) to left field to expand the lead to 4-0.
In the bottom of the third inning the Riversharks would add another run thanks to an RBI single by center fielder Drew Macias making the lead 5-0 in favor of Camden.
In the bottom of the fourth frame the Riversharks blasted two home runs. Left fielder Chris Walker hit a solo home run (2) while third baseman Marquez Smith belted a two run home run (1). The Riversharks had a comfortable 8-0 advantage.
After a one hour and ten minute rain delay the Patriots rallied for five runs in the top of the fifth inning as they batted around. Center fielder Jonny Tucker drew a bases loaded walk. Designated hitter Jesse Hoorelbeke drove in a run on an RBI groundout while three more runs scored on two Camden errors. The score was 8-5.
In the top of the seventh inning Patriots third baseman Jeff Nettles registered an RBI single to cut the deficit to two runs and make the score 8-6.
Patriots left fielder Freddie Bynum snapped his 18 game hitting streak as he was 0-for-5 on the evening.
