Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
LANCASTER, Pennsylvania - The Barnstormers used a seven innings six hit shutout performance from starter John Halama (4-2) to secure the win in game one of three Saturday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Halama faced the Sugar Land Skeeters (15-19) for the third time this season and second time in two consecutive outings. Manger Gary Gaetti gave Pedro Liriano (1-2) the spot start for the Skeeters against the Lancaster Barnstormers (20-15).
Trouble started in the second inning when second baseman Brad Boyer singled up the middle with one out and shortstop Jaime Pedroza doubled down the line scoring Boyer to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Barnstormers right fielder Fehlandt Lentini singled with one out in the third and scored after stealing second on a Tommy Everidge single into center doubling the lead, 2-0.
The fourth was bad news for the Skeeters as well when left fielder Blake Gailen doubled to lead off the inning. Boyer flied out to center for the first out of the inning, but Pedroza drove in his second run of the game with a single into right scoring Gailen from second, 3-0. Emerson Frostad walked putting two on with one out in the ninth spot of the order and Adam Godwin lined into right forcing Jason Botts into a quick decision. The liner caught the right fielder off guard, and he dropped the ball allowing Pedroza to score, 4-0. Lentini hit into a fielder's choice retiring Frostad, but with two on and two out, the Barnstormers chose to double-steal. Octavio Martinez threw wild into center field allowing Godwin to score from third, 5-0.
Skeeters relief pitching held the Barstormers hitless from the fifth to the eighth inning, but the visitors were unable to mount a comeback in the ninth leaving two on base in the inning and 10 total throughout the game.
