Lancaster Stormers News Release

John Halama was effective, if not economical, on Saturday evening as the left-hander fired seven shutout innings in a 5-0 victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters in front of 7,432 at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The win, Lancaster's fifth straight, increased the Barnstormers' lead in the Freedom Division to four games over the York Revolution.

Halama (4-2) threw 117 pitches on the night but allowed only six hits while walking two and striking out six. He got single inning relief help from Beau Vaughan and Mike Johnston, who both pitched hitless baseball. No Skeeters runner reached third base in the game despite getting men to second in six different innings.

Lancaster jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Pedro Liriano (1-2) in the bottom of the second. Brad Boyer ripped a two-out single to right. With the runner in motion, Jaime Pedroza pulled a double into the right field corner as Boyer raced around to score.

Fehlandt Lentini grounded his second single of the night up the middle with one out in the third. Lentini stole second and scooted home on Tommy Everidge's line drive hit to center as Lancaster went up, 2-0.

A double by Blake Gailen and Pedroza's RBI single to right center pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth. Then, the Barnstormers running game took over. Following a walk to Emerson Frostad, he and Pedroza executed a double steal. Jason Botts dropped a shallow fly ball by Godwin, allowing one run to score. Frostad was thrown out between third and home in a rundown on Lentini's grounder, but he stayed alive long enough to enable Godwin to reach third.

Lentini and Godwin then pulled off a double steal for Lancaster's final run.

The Barnstormers entertain Sugar Land in a doubleheader Sunday at 5:00. Rich Rundles (2-1) will match up against right-hander Matt Wright (2-0) in the first game. J.D. Durbin (1-3) will hit the mound against southpaw Heath Phillips (0-3) in the nightcap. Both games will be seven innings.
