
Riversharks Edge Patriots 8-7 in Series Opener

Camden, NJ - The Camden Riversharks (14-30) defeated the Somerset Patriots (29-13) 8-7 Tuesday night from Campbell's Field in the series opener between these Garden State foes. The Riversharks snapped their four game losing streak.
Somerset plated three runs in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Third baseman Corey Smith and first baseman Eddy Martinez-Esteve recorded RBI singles while center fielder Luis Montanez brought home a run via a RBI groundout.
Camden took a 4-3 lead in the home half of the fourth inning. Right fielder Jonny Drennen slapped a RBI single. Center fielder Chris Walker poked a two RBI triple down the right field line and then Walker would score on an errant throw by Jonny Tucker.
Drennen hit another RBI single in the fifth inning to increase the lead to 5-3.
The Riversharks added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on shortstop Wilson Valdez's RBI single and first baseman Delwyn Young's two run home run (2) to center field making the score 8-3 in favor of Camden.
The Patriots scratched across two runs in the ensuing half inning as Smith notched a RBI double and Martinez-Esteve added a run via a RBI groundout cutting the deficit to 8-5.
Somerset threatened in the ninth inning as Montanez and right fielder Josh Kroeger tallied RBI singles but shortstop Bobby Stevens would groundout to the pitcher to strand the tying run at third base as the Riversharks hung on to win 8-7.
Jeff Farnsworth (1-0) earned the win tossing a six innings while striking out six in a quality start. Josh Lowey (5-2) suffered his first loss since his first start of the season on April 23rd. Adrian Martin converted his sixth save of the 2013 campaign.
The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, June 7th when they return home to take on the Sugar Land Skeeters at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Ballpark Replica courtesy of TD Bank as part of the team's 15th Anniversary Celebration of TD Bank Ballpark.
