Published on August 21, 2010 under Atlantic League (AtL)
Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
One night after putting up 12 runs against Camden, the Blue Crabs fell to the Riversharks 6-1 Saturday evening before a crowd of 4,678 at Regency Furniture Stadium.
RHP Mike Madsen (2-1) lasted 7.1 innings and earned the win. Crabs lefty Jason Waddell (1-1) made a spot start out of the bullpen, and despite striking out six batters through three innings, he suffered the loss.
The Riversharks scored five runs in the third, all with two outs. Rightfielder Sean Smith knocked a two RBI double, driving in catcher Matt Ceriani and shortstop Juan Francia to put Camden up 2-0. Leftfielder Garrett Guzman then drew a two out walk, and scored on designated hitter Brian Burgamy's RBI double. Burgamy came home one batter later, as third baseman Chris Malec hit an RBI single. RHP Chris Hayes replaced Waddell and lasted 4.2 innings in long relief.
Hayes struck out three and faced the minimum number of batters from the fourth through the sixth.
The Blue Crabs got on the board in the fifth when third baseman Patrick Osborn scored on an RBI sac fly into centerfield by rightfielder Jamar Hill. Osborn reached base with a leadoff walk three batters earlier. Southern Maryland had runners on base in each of the final three innings, but the Riversharks bullpen held the Crabs scoreless.
Camden tacked on an unearned run in the eighth to take a comfortable 6-1 lead. Guzman hit a liner down the rightfield line and into the corner for a triple, and then scored on an error. Despite the error, the Blue Crabs remain second in the league in fielding percentage.
At 68-42, the Blue Crabs maintain the best overall record in the Atlantic League, and are 27-13 in the second half.
The Blue Crabs will be back in action Sunday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium, in the finale of this three-game series against the Camden Riversharks, continuing a seven-game homestand. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
