
Newark Signs Renault And Barone

(Newark, N.J., Aug. 21, 2010) - Prior to Thursday night's game, the Newark Bears announced the signing of pitcher Nick Renault and catcher Arthur Barone.
Renault enters his sixth season of professional baseball and second in the Atlantic League. The Beaverton, Oregon native pitched in 2008 with Lancaster, where he recorded seven wins with 65 strikeouts in 27 games (15 starts). Renault began the 2010 season with El Paso of the American Association and collected a win, five saves and 19 strikeouts in 24 appearances out of the bullpen.
The 30 year-old put together his best season in 2005 in professional debut as a member of the Mid-Missouri Mavericks in the Frontier League. Renault went 9-7 with a 3.85 ERA and set career-bests in starts (19), innings pitchers (138), and strikeouts (145).
Barone brings three years of professional experience with three different independent leagues (Golden, Can-Am, Continental). The 26 year-old started 2010 with the Big Bend Thunder of the Continental League and served as one of the team's catchers.
In a corresponding roster move, player/coach Willie Banks will take on the full time role as pitching coach. Elijah Dukes has also been placed on the Inactive List.
