NEWS AND NOTES
Tracking Down the Rampage...The Rivermen are just four points back of the top spot in the West Division and Western Conference currently occupied by the San Antonio Rampage. Despite the fact that the Rivermen are 8-0-2 over their past 10 games they have only managed to gain one point on the Rampage who posted a 7-3-0 in their last 10. In the overall AHL standings, the Rivermen sit fourth behind Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, San Antonio, and Norfolk.
About the streak...Peoria's current 10-game point streak (8-0-2-0) is the longest streak in the AHL this season. Saturday's win put them past Hamilton (Oct. 19-Nov. 5) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Oct. 9 ¬" Nov. 5) who both earned points in nine consecutive games earlier this year. It is the longest Rivermen streak since Peoria closed out the 2008-09 season with points in 10 consecutive games (7-0-3 from March 22 ¬" April 11). The Rivermen are averaging 2.90 goals per game during the streak while they averaged just 1.77 over their previous nine games (2-6-0-1). Their goals-against average since the streak began on Nov. 19 is 1.80 with two shutouts.
Keeping it alive... The Rivermen streak has not come easy and it has had some close calls. Of the 10 games, four of them have gone beyond regulation and eight of the 10 games have been decided by one goal. The Rivermen have played a total of 13 one-goal games and have an impressive record of 9-1-2-1 in those contests.
North Country... With another win against the North Division this weekend, the Rivermen are now 6-1-0 against the North. They have not lost an interdivisional game since opening night to Manitoba. The Rivermen will play their next six games, and seven of the next eight, against North Division teams.
First Blood... Peoria has played 12 of their 13 opponents this season with the lone exception being the Toronto Marlies (who they will meet on Dec. 21). The Rivermen are 9-2-1 when seeing a team for the first time this year with Manitoba, Oklahoma City and Chicago as the only teams to beat the Rivermen in the first matchup.
Glamorous Goaltending... The Rivermen are the only team with both of their goaltenders in the top 10 in the league in goals-against average. Jake Allen is second (1.59) while Ben Bishop is 9th (2.24). Combined their 2.15 GAA is the best in the AHL.
Defensively Minded... With stingy defense in five of their last six games, the Rivermen are still 17-0-0 when keeping the opposition to two goals or fewer. They are still winless when allowing three or more (0-7-2-1).
Hensick finds a home... T.J. Hensick did not registered a point on Saturday marking the first time all season he did not land on the scoresheet during a home game. He had a point in all seven home games in which had appeared this season for a total of 12 points. He pitched in five assists last week his first three games back from a three-game stint with the St. Louis Blues. Overall he has eight power-play assists and 10 of his team-leading 20 points have come on the man-advantage.
Rookie Leaders... Center Phil McRae has six points (3g, 3a) his last six games and has assumed the team lead with nine goals on the year. He is tied for sixth among AHL rookies in goals and his 17 points are tied for 12th. Defenseman Mark Cundari is a team-best plus-12 which is also second-best among all rookies. He ranks 13th in the entire league in the category.
400 and counting...Saturday night was the 400th AHL game in the career of Dean Arsene. Overall it was his 522nd game after 109 games in the ECHL as well as 13 games in the NHL.

vs. Grand Rapids (12/11) The longest break of the season couldn't cool off the Peoria Rivermen as their 3-2 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday night at Carver Arena ran their point-streak to 10 games.
