Rivermen to Host the Reading Royals Saturday at Home in Game One of the Northern Division Finals

Peoria, Ill. (April 14, 2004) – The Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that they will open the best-of-five Northern Division Finals at home against the Reading Royals on Saturday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena.

Reading, the fifth seed in the Division, defeated the Eastern Conference Champion Wheeling Nailers 4-0 on the road in Game Five on Wednesday night to advance. Former Rivermen goaltender Cody Rudkowsky stopped 30 shots in the series-clinching shutout victory. The Royals defeated Johnstown 2-1 in the one-game Wild Card round on April 5 in Johnstown to advance to meet Wheeling.

The Rivermen posted three straight wins over the defending Kelly Cup Champion Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies to advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in three seasons. The final two victories came by way of 2-1 overtime decisions at home on Monday and Tuesday in Games Three and Four, respectively.

Peoria finished the 2003-2004 regular season with a 3-1-2 record against the Royals, dropping the last decision between the clubs 4-3 in a shootout on March 16 in Reading, Pa. The Rivermen are 6-2-3 lifetime in the ECHL against the Royals.

Game Two will be played on Monday, April 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena.

The series will move to Reading for Games Three and Four (if necessary) on Wednesday, April 21 and Thursday, April 22, respectively. Game times are 6:00 p.m. CDT at the Sovereign Center.

Game Five (if necessary) would return the series to Peoria on Saturday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena.
