San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Gulls' season on the ice may have come to an unsuccessful finish in 2003-04. But off the ice it was the best season ever, as they helped raise about $232,000 for local charities and other community programs.

The previous record was about $130,000, which the Gulls helped raise last season.

Leading the way this season was the amount raised for fundraiser programs throughout the San Diego community. Through fundraising ticket and "Chuck-A-Puck" sales, the Gulls alone helped raise about $130,000.

"Tip-A-Gull" drew the next highest total, with proceeds benefiting United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego County. With the help of the KSWB Cares for Kids Foundation, the Gulls helped raise $31,500 – the most in the 13-year history of the event.

The Blue and Orange also raised almost $14,000 for the American Red Cross, which will benefit the San Diego wildfire victims. This sum was raised through the "Ice Down the Fire" T-shirts, "Saves for San Diego" program, "Firestorm on Ice" celebrity hockey game, and silent auctions at two "Bowl with the Gulls" nights.

Some $56,500 worth of Gulls tickets, signed jerseys, signed sticks and other team memorabilia were also donated throughout the San Diego community.
