Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen wrapped up the weekend with a 3-1 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday night at Van Andel Arena. Jake Allen stopped 31of 32 shots for his fifth win of the season. Anthony Peluso scored the game-winning goal, and added an assist, as the Rivermen finished the season series 3-1-0 against the Griffins.
The games' first goal came off the stick of Brett Sterling at the 9:13 mark of the second period. Sterling had his initial pass blocked right back to him and finished his team leading 21st of the year from Derek Nesbitt and T.J. Hensick.
The Rivermen doubled their lead at 17:48 when Peluso picked up his first goal since Oct. 15. Peluso was able to lift a backhand through Tom McCollum for his second of the year from Phil McRae and Mark Cundari.
Grand Rapids rookie Gustav Nyquist cut the Peoria lead in half with his 16th of the year on a wrist shot over the glove of Allen from the left circle 6:51 into the final frame.
Phil McRae quickly responded, just 30 seconds later, with his 17th of the year to put Peoria back up by two. Peluso picked up the lone assist on the goal to give him his first multi-point game since Dec. 17, 2010 when he scored two goals, also in Grand Rapids.
The Rivermen were outshot 32-29 in a game that featured no penalties called against either team.
The Rivermen open a four game homestand on Tuesday with their first meeting of the season with the Abbotsford Heat. For tickets contact the Rivermen at (309) 676 1040 or visit www.rivermen.net.
