Syracuse, NY - The Crunch were edged in the ninth round of a shootout, falling 3-2 to the Norfolk Admirals tonight at the Norfolk Scope Arena.

Crunch goaltender Iiro Tarkki stopped 40 of 42 shots in regulation, and turned aside eight Admirals shooters before Admirals right wing Michel Ouellet scored in the ninth round of the shootout.

The Crunch and Admirals traded penalties without consequence in the opening frame. Norfolk got three power-chances but were unable to break through Tarkki. The Crunch got their first man-advantage late in the period and were unable to convert. Shots on goal at the end of the first period were 13 to five in favor of the Admirals.

Gordon converted on the Crunch's third power-play opportunity of the middle frame to give the Crunch a 1-0 lead. Gordon's shot made it through traffic and past Admirals goaltender Jaroslav Janus at the 11:36 mark of the period. The goal was Gordon's first as a member of the Crunch.

Gordon struck again, extending the Crunch's lead to 2-0 with his second goal of the game 19 seconds into the final frame. Gordon had a past attempt blocked in front of the goal and was able to collect the rebound and beat Janus for the even-strength tally.

The Admirals scored twice in the final frame to even the game and force overtime. Mark Barberio cut the Crunch's lead in half with a blast from the right point at the 7:16 mark of the third period and Richard Panik added a power-play tally just 2:14 later.

Each team stayed strong in the overtime session, forcing a shootout to determine a winner. J.F. Jacques and Peter Holland converted for the Crunch but the Admirals would collect the second point thanks to shootout goals from Mike Kostka, Tyler Johnson and Ouellet.
