Mississippi was 2-2-0 last week, starting with a 7-5 loss at Fort Wayne on Wednesday, December 29th, followed by a 4-1 victory at Evansville Thursday, December 30th. The RiverKings then entered the New Year with an 8-2 loss at Bossier-Shreveport on Saturday, January first followed by a 3-2 shootout victory over Bossier-Shreveport on Sunday, January 2nd in Southaven.

THE BUCKS AWAIT:

Mississippi has two games scheduled this week, a two-game series set for the Laredo Energy Arena against the Bucks this Friday and Saturday night. The RiverKings and Bucks have met once already this season, a 5-4 Mississippi victory in overtime on November 27TH at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. The RiverKings did not play Laredo last season and two years ago swept a two-game season series against the Bucks, both by 5-3 scores, as Louis Dumont assisted on four goals to finish second in points against Laredo. All time, Mississippi has a 7-8-1 record against Laredo. This year is the first time since the 2006-07 season that the RiverKings and Bucks will play more than two games in a season.

RIVERKINGS SPECIAL TEAMS : Mississippi went 1-for-4 on the power play in Sunday ‚¬â„¢s victory over Bossier-Shreveport, rebounding on the PP after being shut out with the extra man in Saturday ‚¬â„¢s loss against the Mudbugs. In the last five games, the RiverKings have gone 6 for 29 on the power play (20.68%) and for the season, Mississippi is 11th on the power play at 17.28%. in Sunday ‚¬â„¢s victory against the Mudbugs, Mississippi was 1-for-7 on the penalty kill, the first time in three games that the RiverKings have allowed a power play goal. During the past five Mississippi games, the RiverKings are 6-for-30 (80.0%) and for the season will start the week ranked sixth on the PK at 83.51%. Mississippi is tied for second in the league for shorthanded goals allowed with eight and is se cond in the second for shorthanded goals scored with nine.

SHARPSHOOTER SUMMERS CHARGING UP POWER PLAY : Forward Matt Summers paces the RiverKings in power play goals with eight and starts the week tied for number one in the league for power play goals. The Savage, Minnesota native also leads the RiverKings in goals scored with 12 and is fifth in the CHL for shooting percentage at .232.

DUMONT DOING IT ON THE SHORT SIDE : Forward Louis Dumont ‚¬â„¢s shorthanded goal Sunday against Bossier-Shreveport has moved him to a tie at the top of the league list for "shorties" with three. The Calgary, Alberta veteran forward took over the team lead for shorthanded goals with Sunday ‚¬â„¢s third period marker. He ‚¬â„¢s also tied for the league lead in shorthanded assists with three.

WATCH OUT FOR AUGER: Rookie forward Chris Auger has recently picked up his offensive production, especially when the RiverKings are on the penalty kill, as his two shorthanded goals has him leading CHL rookies.

LUTZ CONTINUES TO PRODUCE: Defenseman Nathan Lutz is continuing to provide an offensive presence. The first year RiverKing starts the week tied for the league lead in points by a defenseman with 29 and is in a tie for fourth for goals scored by the blue liner with eight. Lutz ranks second in assists by a defenseman with 21 and is in a tie for third in the CHL (second for defensemen) for power play assists with 14. His five power play goals have him in a tie for fourth for CHL defensemen.

MAJOR STODDARD: Mississippi forward Darrell Stoddard ranks second in the CHL for major penalties with 11. A native of Red Deer, Alberta, Stoddard leads the RiverKings in penalty minutes with 99 starting the week. As a team, Mississippi continues to lead the CHL for major penalties with 46.

RICHARDS NEARS 800: RiverKings ‚¬â„¢ forward Chris Richards has been steadily climbing the CHL all-time list in several categories and is set to reach a historic plateau with his next point as he currently sits with 799 career CHL points. The Cornwall, Ontario native is poised to become just the fifth CHL player to reach the 800-point mark already ranking fifth on the league ‚¬â„¢s all-time list trailing just Doug Lawrence, Jason Duda, Travis Clayton and Joe Burton. Richards has nine goals and 20 assists this season for the RiverKings. The former Ohio State Buckeye is just five assists away from tying Jason Duda for third on the league ‚¬â„¢s all-time list.

LANDMESSER WATCH : RiverKings captain and veteran defenseman Derek Landmesser is again nearing record territory in his distinguished career. Already the record holder for appearances as a RiverKing, the Thunder Bay, Ontario native is 12 points short of Don Parsons ‚¬â„¢ record for points with the Memphis/Mississippi franchise, now with 540 points, to Parsons ‚¬â„¢ 552 points with the RiverKings. Landmesser is two short of 900 career professional games and should reach to 900 plateau this weekend in Laredo. A team record 593 of Landmesser ‚¬â„¢s 898 career appearances have come as a RiverKing.

BAGS ARE PACKED AGAIN : Starting with this weekend ‚¬â„¢s series in Laredo, Mississippi is hitting the road again on another five-game road trip, equaling the longest road trip of the season. This trip will include stops in Laredoanuary 7th and 8th), Missourianuary 14th), Evansvilleanuary 15th), and Fort Wayne anuary 16th). Mississippi is 10-6-0 at home this year, but only 5-10-1 on the road. Sunday ‚¬â„¢s game was the RiverKings ‚¬â„¢ first home contest since December 21st and in the just completed five-game road swing prior to Sunday ‚¬â„¢s win against Bossier-Shreveport; the RiverKings went 1-4-0. The reward for getting through this next group of road games is that a nine-game home stand will await, starting with Bossier-Shreveport on Tuesday, January 18th.

DO WE HAVE TO LEAVE HOME While struggling to a 5-10-1 record on the road this year, the RiverKings have been finding success in the friendly confines of the DeSoto Civic Center with a 10-6-0 record. Mississippi also starts the week with two straight home wins, tying Texas and Odessa for the longest active home winning streak in the CHL.

NOTABLES : Matt Summers is one game short of 200 career professional and CHL games and should reach the 200 level Friday at Laredo. Sunday ‚¬â„¢s victory against Bossier-Shreveport was goaltender Larry Sterling ‚¬â„¢s 40th goalie win in a RiverKings ‚¬â„¢ sweater. Sterling also went over the 4000 mark (4004) for minutes played as a RiverKings ‚¬â„¢ goalie.
