Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release


The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (13-17-3) travel to Arizona for the first time this season to face the Sundogs in a three-game set. The Bees look to snap a five-game losing skid when they face the Dogs' this week. The Bees fell to the Odessa Jackalopes in a four-game set over the past week with a number of close games.

Most recently the Bees fell 5-2 last Saturday night. The Bees had battled back during the first and second periods tying the game at one and two before Odessa pulled away in the third period.

The Killer Bees are 4-4 all-time at Tim's Toyota Center going 4-1 over the last two seasons. This year the Bees are 0-2-1 against Arizona in the team's first three meetings. After the series with Arizona the Bees rattled off five straight wins.

Including tonight the Bees will play their next six games away from the Hive with a previous stop in Odessa and stops in Arizona, Laredo, and Texas. The Bees next home game won't be until January 21st when they host Allen.

BEES NEED TO KNOW

. With the year 2010 now behind us the Killer Bees finished the tenth year of the 21st century with an overall record of 25-32-9.

. Defenseman Darcy Campbell has been selected as a 2011 CHL All-Star starter receiving the most votes of all starters. Campbell is the first Killer Bees starter for the CHL All-Star team since 2007. During 2009 the Bees were part of the South Texas All-Stars.

. The Killer Bees five game winning streak in December was their longest since February of 2009 and the Bees three game winning streak against Laredo was their longest since December 2005.

. The Bees lead the Laredo Bucks 11 points to 10 in the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup which is awarded to the team with the most points against the other.

. Four is a magic number When scoring four goals or more the Bees are 12-2 this season.

. The Killer Bees have now registered more than 200 franchise regular season victories in their eight seasons of CHL play. The 200th victory came against Bossier-Shreveport on Dec. 16.

. Zak McClellan, who was named captain at the start of the season, is one shorthanded goal from tying the all-time Killer Bees record of eight.
